Hello

4/17/08

Hello- sorry for the lack of updates- it's been busy for many months! After I got back from the Europe mini-tour last fall, ComLib release production went on freeze, so I busied myself with song writing, production, and remixing...Back in shape for ComLib releases for 2008, and since new Strategy releases and DJ sets are appearing this month, I thought I should wake this website back up.

RADIO & DJING
April 24th at 9pm London time Resonance FM (one of the world's only FM stations dedicated to experimental music) will broadcast a Strategy guest DJ set for Wire Magazine's show "Adventures in Modern Music." You can get streams on Resonance's website, check your time zone. A playlist will be posted here that day. I will also be submitting a DJ set for XLR8R's weekly podcast. In Portland, you can now catch me DJing from 7pm - 10pm at Ground Kontrol, during our city's gallery-walk/opening time downtown party. FREE at your favorite classic arcade.

NEW RELEASES: STRATEGY, SMOKE & MIRRORS, NUDGE...
I'm floored to announce three new releases coming out now. The newest Strategy CD, Music for Lamping, releases on Audio Dregs on April 29th. This in-between-albums-album features experimental beatless music I've made going back to 2002, finally gelled into a complete work. While most of you know me through my dance singles, and dub inspired experimental pop music, this is actually what the bulk of my production sounds like- very ambient. Interestingly, it stands outside the story established by my other full length albums and so it never found it's way into print until late in the game. I hope it isn't too much of a curveball and that you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed making it. The newest Strategy vinyl, Electric Soup, is out now on Nottingham's fantastic Low Point label. Low Point have done several EP releases for my dear friend Chris Herbert and I played a show with label chief Gareth Hardwick in Notts last November. They commissioned some new work which takes off from Future Rock and veers in a direction that I have been describing as krautrock meets The Orb. It is mainly vintage keyboards and shitloads of delay and reverb. I am totally overjoyed and this Boomkat writeup pretty much hits the nail on the head. The b-side track "Primordial Soup" features maniac Brian Foote on guitar and synth. Lastly, Smoke & Mirrors' first ever release comes out also April 29th on Audio Dregs. The Ambient Not Not Ambient compilation CD was co-curated by myself and E*Rock as a followup to the successful Fork Ends CD comp they released a few years back. This is Smoke & Mirrors in our duo mode (more about that in a second) and we are incredibly proud to be in this lineup. Lastly, a new nudge CDEP is forthcoming next month on audraglint. The EP is a teaser for our upcoming full-length currently in progress!

IN THE WORKS
My track "Tomorrow May Never Come," plus Ada remix, were dropped when Holocene Music canceled their vinyl series, but it will likely be picked up by a yet-to-be-named-publicly German techno label...I just have to submit a satisfactory B-side track. Confirmed Strategy remixes include a dub version of Ssion for a 7" forthcoming on Sleazetone, and a commission that has just come in from the Swedish slow-disco act IMPS. Other remix work recently finished or currently under way: Units, I Heart Lung, and the Declining Winter (aka Richard from Hood.)

Smoke & Mirrors
have expanded to a four-piece with the inclusion of our dear friends Michael and Sarah Hamilton Braun (Spacehawk, One Human Minute, Two Oboes, Entertainment, The Tomorrow, etc.) This has been super exciting and we have submitted a song for release on a Nillacat CDR comp. The primitiv-ambient-poetry-electronics vibe has been kept, yet expanded to a more space/free rock band type sound. One Human Minute new material is slowly in progress, as well (myself and Michael). I've also been doing a collaboration project with Jesse Johnson from Evolutionary Jass Band and Gulls- yet to be named.

Forthcoming Releases
Strategy dub mix of Ssion "Ah Ma" 7" (Sleazetone)
Unclocked CD-R (Yarnlazer)
"Spread the Word" 10", featuring Zulu (Community Library)
