What's New in this Update
Strategy and Reanimator "Warehouse Find" Copies Available Again
Our ex-distributor "mysteriously" turned up copies of some releases that we'd previously understood to be out of print. We have very limited copies of CL1, Strategy's "World House" release, and we have more plentiful copies of Reanimator's Special Powers CD (CL9). We're very pleased that these can be available to you again even if on a limited basis. Paypal buttons will be installed this week for those titles.
Units CD Temporarily Out of Stock
CL16, the CD version of the Units release, is temporarily out of stock here. We deeply appreciate the ongoing support for this title. We are determining our next moves, whether to repress or wait, based on the dwindling significance of CDs in the marketplace (of course, OUR Cd's are timeless, classic art objects - extremely good investments - just wait until CDs are collectable!...remember when vinyl "died?" And then came back? And then came back again? Or never really went away? You may laugh now but just give it a few years) and we will be doing some work to assess the real demand. We intend to keep this title in print in all formats as long as possible and at the "real world" price point we know that you appreciate. Watch this space for updates. Do not panic! We are digitally releasing the amazing 12"s coming out from our allies over at Boomarmnation. The first title, by our dear friend, the Boomarmin label headman and Portland super go-getter GULLS, came out earlier this year, and the next one by Paper Upper Cuts, comes out soon. You can buy CL24, Gulls "Mean Sound" here, and you can buy the 12"s at their site. "Mean Sound" is the perfect entry into Gulls world which combines dub mixing, deep bass music, timeless polyrhythmic gestures and a fantastic combination of urban slammage and tape echo fantasy. We do have new releases, working at our own relaxed pace here - "less is more" after all. Jan Steele "Distant Saxophones" anthology will showcase the unreleased recordings of Jan Steele, British saxophonist and composer who was first introduced to the world via the Brian Eno-curated New Music label, Obscure, in 1976. The release will provide an in-depth look at Jan's work and with his longtime musical partner and wife Janet Sherbourne. Beyond his Obscure release, considered a cult classic, the album will be a combination of reissued and never before heard recordings and private press releases. This singular music exists at the confluence of jazz, chamber music, electric avant-garde 1970s music and is unmistakably British in its understatement and austere beauty. Reanimator will return to the label for DAMAGED BADS, finally revealing recordings related to the band's tour with Strategy in 2008. Building on the rough and tumble DIY electronics of "Special Powers", the band's evolution reveals their affinity for the most abstract time signatures and over 31 flavors of delicious chewy bass.
