We're back. Sorry for the wait. We'll make a long story short: our label began as an exclusive label of a distributor who manufactured and distributed our stuff. Their generosity and guidance were critical during our eary years. However in 2008, we decided to take some time off and figure out where to go from there. We're extremely proud to announce that we are now 100% independent, which means more control; making releases more affordable for fans; using sustainable materials; being solely responsible to our artists (not caught between their interests and a parent company's); and owning the entirety of our own stock.
It also means releasing less music, overall. This has been a difficult transition, and we have had to help some of our projects find new homes. The loss in momentum and our own uncertainties have impacted our artists across the board, who have had to adapt to our changes (and put up with our fretting.)
At the same time, the hiatus enabled us to re-confirm our goals and vision. Among our highest priorities were several reissue projects, and the first of those, the Units' History of the Units CD/LP/Download release is now a reality, after more than three years of selection, remastering, design, and footwork. This is the first-ever legitimate reissue of the band's music, much-hyped on the radio, by DJs, bloggers, and everyone else. The CD releases June 15, 2009, with vinyl and downloads following shortly after, and released in conjunction with remix collections from Relish and Opilec labels. Units spearheaded the unofficial west coast 'synth punk' movement, during an era of chaos and punk ingenuity, and their music is a testament to the cross-pollination of musical and cultural ideas in San Francisco during the 1970s. The crossed wires of genres and concepts fits in perfectly with the ComLib M.O. so we feel like this is absolutely the right release to come back with.
While we will likely never produce releases at the same frequency as we did during our first four years, we are incredibly excited to be working on our own resources - as uncompromising as always. Thanks again for your patience in, and more importantly, your ongoing support of our label.
