NUDGE

nudge is the combo led by veteran soundmaker Brian Foote. Established in
Milwaukie, Wisconsin in the early 90s, nudge came into its present form in the
fertile Portland underground of the last 7 or so years. nudge inhabit an unusual
crossroads where rock, dub, techno, afrobeat, improvisation, and electro-acoustic
experimental music meet- while this might sound confounding, it actually makes
perfect sense in our increasingly multi-lingual soundworld, and this approach predates
most of the current in-vogue "easy" hybrids.. The band has been particularly fast-forward in
their convolution of "live vs. programmed" boundaries in live performance, and through albums
on Outward Music Company (the label Foote founded), Tigerbeat6, and now kranky.
Recent regular members include Honey Owens (of Valet, World, Jackie-O-Motherfucker, and
Tra La La) and Paul Dickow (of Strategy). Guests are frequently included: their Community
Library release "Stack" b/w "Div" 12" single, features Franz Bucholtz (Signaldrift) and Howard
Gillam (The Front Machine) augmenting the band to a quintet. Other past contributors include
Jason and Ben Buehler (Nice Nice), Michael Hamilton (One Human Minute, Spacehawk),
Mat Morgan (Fontanelle), Andy Brown (Fontanelle), Rex Ritter (Fontanelle), Elton Lawson
(Metatron), Marc Hellner, and many more.
