EATS TAPES

Marijke Jorritsma and Gregory Zifcak are the techno mischief-making duo Eats Tapes.
Transplants from Cascadia to San Francisco, the band has been together for several years,
but 2005 has seen them pop with several recordings, American and European tours, and
festival appearances. Coming of age musically in San Francisco's still-formidable
underground music community (which, like Portland's, fosters genre-bending experimentation),
the band are equally at home at punk/noise shows or dance clubs; most importantly, they are
almost preternaturally comfortable in tour mode, making them one of the west coast's most
consistently great live acts. Eats Tapes use hardware electronics almost exclusively to create
a hybrid of techno and noise- classic drum machines and synths are modded and paired with
a variety of homebrew synth gear and modified toys. Eats Tapes are living proof that the circuit-
bending scene can produce touring bands and albums as well as $100+ Speak and Spells; the
band's joyous electronic rhythm explosion transcends process and technology altogether. Their
first album, Sticky Buttons was released by Tigerbeat6 in 2005, and two singles followed,
"Dinosaur Days" on Community Library, and "Supreme Master" on Tigerbeat6.
