CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS

Steve Silverstein and Nick Forte have been operating at the overlapping point
of duo-configured rock song composition and experimentalism for quite some
time now. Initially known to the world through the fantastic, insular Model 91
on kranky (2002), the duo have since refined their palette and refocused their
mission. Retaining their post-punk core- melancholism and guitar-centricity
(reflecting voracious musicological interest in New Zealand 80ies groups, Factory,
4AD, Siltbreeze, etc.), the band have continued to atomize and decay their
compositions with layers of digital and analogue, live, pedal-induced fragmentation.
Like all ComLib bands, this dichotomy puts them squarely between the known
and the new, as they continue the tension between post-punk's strum and
digital reconfiguration. For us, this is an important and rewarding new branch in
the tree of "anti guitar guitar music." Silverstein is a member of Fulton Lights
and freelance studio engineer, and erstwhile contributor to Tape Op magazine;
Forte is an accomplished solo artist in his own right, releasing computer and
noise music for labels such as Sublight, Schematic, and more. He is a frequent
collaborator of Dino Felipe and also a member of the improvising NYC ensemble
Hell's Hills. They recently added bass/electronics specialist Peter Kerlin to the
group as well, and their first trio recordings will be released as a CDR in the amazing
Melted Mailbox music subscription series.
